Roads are my passion. I fought hard for passage of the County Road Bond in 2008. While serving on the Kyle City Council, I supported the improvements to the IH-35 access roads and overpasses by voting to supplement the county’s road bonds with an additional $11 million from the City of Kyle.
But I believe more needs to be done to improve the roads in Precinct 2. The citizens of Kyle, Buda, Uhland, Niederwald, and the rest of the Precinct need better roads to link up with the improvements that are now underway to IH-35, FM 1626, SH 21, and FM 150.
Hays County is facing a number of serious issues over the next few years:
I am ready to take on these challenges. I understand that it is difficult in these economic times to find all the dollars that are necessary to support the projects we need, while also continuing to build our local economy and enhancing our quality of life in Hays County.
Every politician these days is a fiscal conservative. But I plan to be fiscally creative. We must find new ways to get the biggest bang out of every single penny we spend. It’s not enough just to say we will stop spending or we will tighten our belts. I will work hard to wring more money and services for the taxpayer out of every department’s budget by emphasizing creativity.
Sustained economic development will continue to lower our tax rate. I will work hard to ensure that the County continues to bring in high-quality commercial development that will keep our residential tax rate stable.
I will continue to work with local governments in Precinct 2 because I understand, from first-hand experience, how critical this cooperation is in solving our problems. We must begin to plan on a regional basis. Closer collaboration among our cities, the county, and even our school district will only make government more effective and efficient.
I look forward to discussing these topics and others, in more detail with the citizens of Precinct 2 during the course of my campaign as we share our ideas with one another. I find that my initial ideas take on a new life after talking directly with the people. I may not agree with you on every issue, but I promise to listen and consider your views.
Let’s partner together and make Hays County a better place to live. |
