Vote Lila Knight for PEC District 7
Hi, my name is Lila Knight. And I’m one of the 20 candidates asking for your vote for the District 7 place on the PEC board.
You may be tempted not to vote at all – after all how in the world can you decide which of the 20 candidates is the one you should support?
Many of my opponents are worthy candidates, that I’m sure would do a fine job of representing you.
But, let me give you the reasons that you should support me.
1. I am not a politician. I don’t want to be a politician. I’m not interested in getting elected to the PEC board so I can build a political following and move on to “bigger and better” things.
2. I think the salary for the current PEC board members is outrageous and an abuse of the trust of hard-working PEC members. I pledge to only accept $150 per Board meeting (which adds up to less than $2,000 a year) instead of the $40,000 a year the Board members currently receive. If forced to accept the entire stipend, I pledge to donate the bulk of it back to the community – where it belongs.
3. Anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m tenacious. I’m not satisfied with the answer of, “we’ve always done it that way,” or “we don’t know the answer,” or “that’s just the way it is.” I want to know why. I want to know if what’s being done is the best way, the most expeditious way, the way that is most beneficial to the citizens being served. And I will not stop asking the questions that need to be asked until I’m satisfied they’ve been fully answered.
4. I believe in transparency. No entity serving the public should EVER be allowed to get away with the sort of secrecy that the PEC board has been allowed to get away with under the guise of being a private concern. Their structure may allow them to get away with not being scrutinized by the Public Utilities Commission, but that should not serve as a shield to scrutiny by their paying members.
5. I believe in term limits and pledge that I will serve no longer than two terms.
